Rola podwzgórza w kontroli funkcji rozrodczych u ptaków

Podwzgórze pełni centralną rolę w regulacji funkcji rozrodczych. Syntetyzuje i uwalnia hormon uwalniający gonadotropiny (GnRH) i hormon hamujący uwalnianie gonadotropin (GnIH). Ich synteza jest regulowana przede wszystkim przez czynnik środowiskowy, fotoperiod. W podwzgórzu syntetyzowane są również mezotocyna i arginino-wazotocyna.
