Wiek stada rodzicielskiego – istotny czynnik wpływający na zdolność wylęgową jaj i jakość piskląt

 Ptaki charakteryzuje specyficzna strategia rozrodcza. Rozwój zarodkowy tej gromady zwierząt odbywa się poza organizmem matki, w jaju, zawierającym wszystkie niezbędne składniki pokarmowe. Z tego powodu kondycja wyklutego pisklęcia jest wypadkową wartości biologicznej jaj i parametrów inkubacji. Dodatkowo u różnych gatunków ptaków/drobiu wraz z wiekiem stada rodzicielskiego obserwuje się stopniowy spadek skuteczności zapłodnienia. Jest to spowodowane zmianami fizjologicznymi zarówno po stronie męskiej (jakość nasienia

 i zdolność do kopulacji), jak i żeńskiej (zdolność przechowywanie nasienia w kanalikach SST -– sperm-storagetubules) [Abudabos, 2010].
