Hodowla zarodków ptasich w skorupach zastępczych

Jajo zagniazdowników, do których należą wszystkie gatunki drobiu, stanowi wygodny model do badań biologicznych. Decyduje otym głównie, że zamknięty w jego skorupie zarodek rozwija się poza organizmem matki, przebywając jednocześnie w stabilnym pod względem chemicznym środowisku wnętrza jaja i przy ograniczonym, błonami płodowymi oraz skorupą wapienną, kontakcie ze środowiskiem zewnętrznym.
